Cold Calling Isn’t Dead —
You’re Just Doing It Wrong
Periodically, someone jumps into my LinkedIn or BlueSky feed to announce “Cold calling is dead.”
If cold calling were to paraphrase Mark Twain…
But here’s the truth — and we break it down in this week’s Lunch Money podcast:
🚫 Bad cold calling is dead.
✅ Smart, human-to-human outreach is alive and thriving.
Here’s why cold calling still works (when done right):
👉 It’s about conversations, not pitches.
The days of "Hi, this is Scott from XYZ Corp, let me tell you why you need us..." — those are over.
Good cold calls open conversations and build relationships, not force a product down someone's throat.
👉 The math still works—especially when combined with other channels.
Cold calling shouldn’t stand alone. Pair it with LinkedIn touches, emails, and other signals and now you’re warm calling. That’s what makes it work.
👉 Most reps hate cold calling because they were never trained.
Fear of rejection, bad scripts, and zero preparation make cold calling feel like a grind.
But when reps get proper training, coaching, and a framework, it’s a game-changer.
Bottom line:
Cold calling isn't dead—bad cold calling is.
Focus on starting conversations, not closing deals.
Give your reps the tools, mindset, and practice to succeed.
If you’re a sales leader, a rep, or just someone trying to figure out how to break through to buyers—this episode is for you.
